Support
Help for the upcoming Mac App Store edition of Volmora. It reads and writes NTFS and reads Linux file systems, without a root helper. Can’t find what you need? Contact support.

Getting started
How do I enable the Volmora extension? +
macOS requires you to turn on file system extensions yourself:
- Open Volmora and click Open System Settings…, or open System Settings manually.
- Go to General › Login Items & Extensions, then click the ⓘ button next to File System Extensions.
- Turn on Volmora and click Done.
Volmora shows the extension status in the app, so you can confirm it’s active.
Which drives does Volmora support? +
- NTFS (Windows) — read and write. Volumes open read-only by default; writing is enabled after you confirm it.
- ext2, ext3 and ext4 (Linux) — read-only.
- XFS (Linux) — read-only.
APFS, Mac OS Extended, exFAT and FAT drives are handled by macOS itself. Volmora lists them for convenience, but they never need the extension or a purchase.
Only supported filesystem features and clean volumes are accepted. Volmora does not unlock encrypted volumes, assemble Linux storage stacks such as LVM or RAID, or repair filesystems and replay recovery journals. A supported format name alone does not guarantee compatibility with every volume.
Btrfs, SquashFS and ReFS are being evaluated for future support. They are not available. Broader XFS compatibility is also on the roadmap.
What are the system requirements? +
The current build targets macOS 15.4 or later. Runtime testing so far has covered macOS 26.6.2 on Apple silicon; older macOS versions and Intel Macs still require qualification before we claim support. Check the final App Store listing when available.
Volmora uses Apple’s FSKit framework. You enable the file system extension in System Settings, but do not need to run the app as root, install a privileged helper or enable Reduced Security.
Troubleshooting
My drive doesn’t appear in Finder +
- Check in Volmora that the extension is enabled and that you have an active plan.
- Check whether the drive is listed in Volmora and whether it reports an unsupported format or a mount error.
- In Finder, open Settings › Sidebar and make sure External disks is checked.
- Before reconnecting or changing a cable, normally unmount every volume on that physical device. Never disconnect a mounted volume or a failed session just to retry.
If it still doesn’t mount, export diagnostics (see below) and send them to us.
Why can’t I write to my drive? +
NTFS: volumes open read-only by default to protect your data. Enable write access in Volmora and confirm it when you need to change files on the drive.
ext2, ext3, ext4 and XFS: these are read-only in the App Store edition. You can browse, open and copy existing files, but cannot modify the source volume. Premium does not enable an unsupported write mode — copy a file to a writable destination before editing it. Experimental Linux write functionality in separate development builds is not a feature of this edition.
Why does the app say “Prepare read-only access” instead of “Mount”? +
The sandboxed App Store edition cannot manually remount an already attached physical device. This action shows instructions; it does not mount anything. For removable devices, normally unmount all volumes first, then reconnect so macOS can attempt automatic mounting through the enabled extension.
A purchase confirms access to supported features, not that a volume has mounted. Check the actual status in Volmora. If unmount fails, stop using the volume and preserve diagnostics rather than disconnecting it.
How do I show disk images? +
Turn on Show disk images in Volmora’s Settings. It is off by default. This reveals attached images; it does not attach image files or add support for unknown formats.
Recognized supported images can offer Mount read-only. If an image needs reconnecting, normally unmount its volumes and detach it before reopening it. Do not detach a mounted or failed session.
Tips for drives shared with Windows +
- On Windows, always use Safely Remove Hardware before unplugging the drive.
- Windows Fast Startup and hibernation can leave a drive in an unfinished state. Fully shut down Windows (or turn off Fast Startup) before moving the drive to your Mac.
- If Windows reports problems, preserve a backup before considering repair using the originating system’s tools. Volmora is not a recovery or repair utility.
How do I disconnect a drive safely? +
Use normal unmount or eject and wait for successful completion. Every volume on the same physical device must be unmounted before disconnecting it. A single volume’s successful unmount does not prove that the whole device is ready to remove.
If unmount fails, close applications using the volume and preserve diagnostics. Do not force-disconnect or treat an emergency detach as a clean unmount.
How do I export diagnostics? +
Open Volmora’s Settings and click Export… next to Export diagnostics. Volmora describes the included information — volume names, device identifiers, disk space, app and macOS versions, logs and session status — and asks you to confirm. The exporter does not copy files from your drives or upload the archive automatically. Review the archive for sensitive names or paths before choosing to email it. See the Privacy Policy for details.
Purchases & subscriptions
Which plans are available? +
- 7-Day Pass — one-time purchase, access to supported features for seven days, does not renew.
- Monthly and Yearly — auto-renewing subscriptions.
- Lifetime — one-time purchase with no expiry.
These are the planned purchase options for release. All plans unlock the same supported features; none adds write support to a read-only provider. Check availability and current local prices in the app’s purchase screen when the release is available.
I bought Volmora but it’s locked on this Mac +
Make sure you’re signed in to the App Store with the same Apple Account you used to purchase, then choose Restore Purchases in Volmora. Purchases are tied to your Apple Account, not to a specific Mac.
How do I cancel my subscription? +
Subscriptions are managed by Apple. Open the App Store, click your name, then Account Settings › Subscriptions › Manage, or go to apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions. You keep access until the end of the current billing period.
How do I request a refund? +
Refund requests are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. You are also welcome to contact us for technical help; contacting support first is not required.
Data safety & disclaimer
Volmora writes to NTFS volumes when you enable write access and reads supported Linux file systems. Like any software that writes to disks, it cannot rule out every failure — hardware faults, disconnecting a drive during a write, power loss, existing corruption or software errors can lead to data loss, corruption or an incomplete copy. Volmora is not a backup or a repair tool, and it does not guarantee that a drive is healthy.
- Keep backups. Keep an independent copy of important data, and preserve a failing drive before attempting repairs.
- Unmount before unplugging. Confirm that every volume on the device has normally unmounted.
- Don’t rely on Volmora as your only copy when moving important files between computers — verify the copy on the destination first.
